Cookie Policy

This cookie policy explains which cookies the SP-Energy website uses and how you can control them. Homeowners, businesses, farms, solar installers and resellers use our site to compare inverters, batteries and solar panels. SP-Energy has supplied and installed solar equipment across South Africa since 2013.

What Are Cookies and How They Work

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. They help the site remember your cart, your settings and the pages you visited. No cookie can install software or read other files on your device. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, some cookies count as personal information when they identify you.

First-party cookies come from sp-energy.co.za itself. Third-party cookies come from outside services, such as a payment gateway. Session cookies disappear when you close your browser, while persistent cookies stay until a set expiry date.

Types of Website Cookies We Use

Our website runs on WordPress and WooCommerce, which set most of the cookies below. Without them, inverters, batteries or solar panels in your cart would vanish between pages.

  • Essential cookies: woocommerce_cart_hash and woocommerce_items_in_cart keep your cart working and clear when you close the browser.
  • Basket cookies: wp_woocommerce_session keeps your basket for up to 2 days, then expires.
  • Security cookies: help protect the site and your account from fake logins and spam.
  • Analytics cookies: show which pages visitors view, so we can improve product information.

Essential cookies cannot be switched off, because the cart and checkout need them to work. We do not use cookies to sell your details to anyone. Learn how we store and protect order details in the SP-Energy privacy policy.

Payment and Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies come from services that help you pay or order. Online card payments run through PayFast, a South African payment gateway. PayFast sets its own cookies on its payment page, and those fall outside this cookie policy. SP-Energy never sees or stores your full card number. You can also pay by EFT or cash, which needs no payment cookies at all.

Checkout cookies keep your delivery details in place until you confirm the order. Orders then ship with nationwide delivery in 2 to 5 working days.

How to Block Website Cookies

You can accept, block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will stop the cart and quote forms from working properly. Here is how to delete website cookies in the main browsers.

  • Chrome: open Settings, then Privacy and security, then Delete browsing data.
  • Safari on iPhone: open Settings, then Apps, then Safari, then Clear History and Website Data.
  • Firefox: open Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Cookies and Site Data.
  • Edge: open Settings, then Privacy, search and services, then Clear browsing data.

Those steps show how to clear website cookies on most devices. On shared office computers, installers and resellers should clear cookies after each session. Wondering how to enable cookies in iPhone Safari? Turn off Block All Cookies under Safari, then Advanced.

Phones store cookies separately in each browser app, such as Chrome and Safari. Knowing how to clear cookies on your phone means repeating the steps in every app you use. Android phones follow the same Chrome steps listed above.
