Refund and Returns Policy
This policy explains how returns, exchanges and refunds work when you buy from SP-Energy. It applies to inverters, lithium batteries, solar panels, charge controllers, solar air conditioners, mounting systems, cables and connectors. We supply nationwide from our Vanderbijlpark branch and our warehouses in Midrand, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth and Nelspruit. Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 apply in full and nothing on this page limits them.
Return period and eligibility
You may request a return within 7 days of receiving your order. The 7 days start on the date of delivery or collection. Requests after this period fall outside our standard returns process, although faulty goods remain covered under warranty and the Consumer Protection Act. Orders may be cancelled in writing before dispatch, and a 15% handling fee may apply. Special-order and custom items cannot be cancelled or refunded once we have placed them with the supplier.
Condition of goods for a valid return
Goods must be unused and in their original packaging. This matters with solar equipment, because an installed or commissioned inverter or battery cannot be resold as new. Please keep the box, foam inserts, manuals, brackets, cables and any accessories supplied with the item. A 15% restocking fee applies to correctly supplied goods returned for a change of mind. No restocking fee applies where the item is faulty or we sent the wrong product.
Items we cannot take back
The following cannot be returned for a change of mind. This does not affect your rights if an item is defective, unsafe or not what you ordered.
- Lithium batteries once removed from their sealed packaging.
- Items bought on special or promotion.
- Pre-cut solar cable and other cut-to-length goods.
- Special-order or custom items already placed with the supplier.
When only a partial refund applies
- The goods have been used, installed or commissioned.
- The goods are not in their original packaging.
- The goods arrive back damaged or with parts missing.
- The request falls outside the 7 day period and we agree to accept it anyway.
How to return an item
- Email inquiry@sp-energy.co.za within 7 days with your invoice number, the item and the reason for the return.
- Attach photos of the item and its packaging, plus the serial number for any battery or inverter.
- Wait for our written return authorisation before sending anything back.
- Pack the item securely in its original packaging and include your original invoice as proof of purchase.
- Deliver or courier it to Solar Panel Energy (Pty) Ltd, 204 Louis Trichardt Blvd, S. E. 1, Vanderbijlpark, 1911.
- We inspect the goods on arrival and confirm the outcome by email.
Please do not send goods directly to the manufacturer. Return transport is for your account unless the item is faulty or incorrectly supplied, and shipping costs are not refundable. Where we are at fault, we arrange collection through The Courier Guy at our cost. For goods valued over R500, use a trackable courier, as we cannot accept responsibility for parcels lost in transit. Our shipping policy sets out delivery and collection in more detail.
How and when refunds are paid
Approved refunds are paid by EFT into your nominated bank account. Payment is made within 7 business days after the returned goods have been received and inspected. Refunds go to the person who placed and paid for the order. Any restocking fee and return shipping cost are deducted first, and we confirm the final amount in writing before payment. We do not issue cash refunds, and card or PayFast payments are refunded by EFT. If nothing reflects after 7 business days, check with your bank, then email us for the payment reference.
Exchanges
We exchange items that arrive defective or damaged. Email us within 7 days with photos and the serial number, and we will confirm whether a replacement is available from stock. Delivery time on a replacement depends on your location and which branch holds the unit.
Faulty or defective goods
Under the Consumer Protection Act you may return goods that are defective, unsafe or not fit for their intended purpose within six months of delivery. You may choose a repair, a replacement or a refund. Send us the original invoice and proof of purchase, with the serial number for battery and inverter claims. Longer manufacturer cover also applies, ranging from 1 to 10 years depending on the product and brand. Cover, exclusions and the full claim process are set out in our warranty policy. Damage from incorrect installation, lightning, surge, water ingress or physical impact is not a manufacturing defect.
Repairs
We do not carry out repairs in-house. We lodge the claim, put you in contact with the manufacturer and follow the matter up on your behalf. Where the manufacturer does not offer a call-out or free shipping arrangement, transport to and from their facility is for your account. We cannot be held liable for delays or costs on the manufacturer’s side.
