Refund and Returns Policy

This return policy explains how to return goods, cancel an order or get a refund from SP-Energy. It applies to homeowners, businesses, farms, solar installers and resellers buying inverters, batteries or solar panels. SP-Energy has supplied and installed solar systems across South Africa since 2013. We stock Deye, Luxpower, Dyness, Pylontech and JA Solar, with payment by EFT, card, cash or PayFast. Stock ships nationwide in 2 to 5 working days from 6 warehouses.

Return Policy Eligibility and Timeframes

You can return unused goods within 7 days of receiving them. The 7 days start on the day your order is delivered or collected. This covers change-of-mind returns, such as a wrong size or a changed system plan. Mounting rails, cables and connectors follow the same 7-day rule. A 15% restocking fee applies to change-of-mind returns that fall outside the cooling off rules below.

Special-order and custom items cannot be cancelled or refunded once we have ordered them from the supplier. Installers and resellers should confirm sizing before ordering special stock for a client.

Online Orders and the Cooling Off Period

The cooling off period South Africa law sets for online sales is 7 days. Under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, you may cancel an online order within 7 days of delivery. You pay only the direct cost of returning the goods, and no restocking fee applies. Direct cost means the courier fee for sending the goods back. Custom goods made to your specifications are excluded from this right.

Condition of Returned Goods

Returned goods must be unused and in their original packaging. Unused means the item was never installed, connected to power or mounted. Keep all manuals, cables, brackets and accessories that came in the box. Photos of the goods and packaging help us process your return faster. We inspect every return before approving a refund. Goods that fail these checks are not accepted under this return policy.

How to Return an Item

  • Email inquiry@sp-energy.co.za within 7 days with your invoice number and the items you are returning.
  • Include your bank details for the EFT refund in your email.
  • Wait for our written return approval before sending anything back.
  • Pack the goods in their original packaging and send or bring them back.

How and When Refunds Are Paid

Our refund policy pays approved refunds by EFT to your nominated bank account. Payment is made within 7 business days after we receive and inspect the returned goods. Your refund amount is confirmed by email once the inspection is done.

Unlike a simple return or exchange policy, ours also covers cancelled orders. Cancel in writing before dispatch, and a 15% handling fee may apply.

Consumer Protection Act Returns for Faulty Goods

What is a consumer protection act? It is a law that sets minimum rights for buyers of goods and services. South Africa’s version has applied to most sales since 2011.

Faulty goods follow different rules from change-of-mind returns. Under section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act, defective goods can be returned within 6 months. Defective means the goods fail to work as they should under normal use. The choice of repair, replacement or refund is yours, and no restocking fee applies.

These rights come from South Africa’s consumer law and no supplier can remove them. Claims need your invoice, plus the serial number for batteries and inverters. Faults after 6 months are handled under the product warranty policy for each brand.
